Military experience drives student to pursue counseling career
Many veterans, who constantly faced life-and-death situations while dodging the bombs and gunfire in war-torn countries, do not often have the support needed to cope with the emotional wounds they bring back home. Former Army Sgt. Bryan Hall, who understands firsthand how the effects of war can take a toll on service members, is majoring in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to help make sure veterans suffering from trauma do not slip through the cracks.

Academic Director builds connections with students
Panther Academic Center for Excellence Director Lindsay Shaughnessy, who once aspired to be an interior designer, pursued the field of education like many of her family members. After teaching high school in Alabama, she made her way to LaGrange College, where she helps students in need of extra assistance in their courses.

Student interns developing local sports hall of fame
Over the course of the semester, interns Bershard Edwards '23 and Mena Yacoub '23 have been assisting the Troup County Parks and Recreation department with managing local school competitions. However, their primary project is creating a Sports Hall of Fame in the county.

LaGrange College Theatre will open its season with “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” an upbeat comedy about the bond these women form despite their differences. The production will run Oct. 6-9.

Expanded learning, tutoring center opens for fall semester
The Moshell Tutoring Lab, an area used by the Panther Academic Center for Excellence and the Writing and Tutoring centers, is being launched to better accommodate students. The Lab, along with the Moshell Learning Center, both received modern furnishings and new technology as part of a renovation project that started in February.

Kathy Reese McCollum '81, M'17 is bringing her business and non-profit experience into her new role as Chair of the college's Board of Trustees, a position not held by a woman before in the history of the institution. A member of the college's Board since 2007, she started her term as Chair on July 1.

Student gets real-world veterinary experience in Thailand
As a child, Aria Foster '24 knew she wanted to be a veterinarian when she nursed stray animals found at her home back to health. This summer, she had the chance to travel out of the country to help treat cats, dogs, and elephants at Loop Abroad's College Veterinary Service Program in Thailand.

Retired Postmaster back on the move one year after motorcycle accident
Austin Cook III, who suffered life-threatening injuries from a motorcycle accident in May 2021, said he is making great strides in his recovery. After being told that he might not be able to walk again, he said he recently hiked Anna Ruby Falls for four tenths of a mile in an hour and 15 minutes.
